Kenya Youth Hockey Development

A sporting chance for a better future

A new perspective through hockey

We are Kenya Youth Hockey Development. Together with our partners, we help underprivileged Kenyan children and youngsters to shine on the hockey fields. We provide them with everything they need to play. Hockey brings the children carefree fun and teaches them to trust in their own strength. Together, we build a future full of opportunities.

Developing talent

Every child has talent, but in Kenya too few children get the chance to develop it. Nor does every child have the healthy opportunity to play sports. Based on these ideas, the Kenya Youth Hockey Development Foundation was established.

The power of hockey

Through hockey, kids learn that they can accomplish something on their own if they put in the effort. Through the competitive element of the game they learn to deal with loss and disappointment. These are important lessons you need in life.

Hockeyprograms

1. City Park

City Park, located in Westlands, Nairobi, is where it all began for KYHD. Nearly 60 children train there every Saturday. During breaks, the children receive water, snacks, and a hot meal afterward.

2. Lenana

In the Lenana neighborhood, more than sixty children train several times a week. The training sessions are led by Moses, who started his career at the foundation as a child and played for the Kenyan national team.

3. Obama

The Obama neighborhood is about a half-hour drive from downtown Nairobi. More than 80 children receive training here weekly under the guidance of our dedicated coach, Mandela. He himself joined the foundation as a child.

4. Impala

At Impala, nearly seventy children train under the supervision of four coaches. In addition to hockey training, the children also receive computer lessons, and a group of girls aged 10 to 14 participated in mental health sessions led by our resident psychologist, Maria.

5. Mwiki

Mwiki is our newest program, launched at the end of 2024. Over 40 children train weekly at Mwiki Secondary School under the guidance of coach Weslay Maina. This program is a great example of how we're expanding our mission: the more children have the opportunity to play hockey, the better.
